WHY RETREADING?
Whether you are a motorist looking for ways to stretch the family budget or a fleet manager buying thousands of tyres for your company, costs must somehow be controlled in today’s stringent economy. Truckers, airlines, construction companies, farmers and passenger car owners all purchase retreads for one basic reason: to save money.

In the manufacturing of a new tyre, a big portion of the cost is in the tyre casing. The tread, which is the area of the tyre which is in contact with the road, represents only a percentage of the new tyre cost. When a tyre has worn out and seems ready to be discarded, the bulk of its cost remains unrecovered! In fact, this tyre’s useful life has not even began.

Advancements in technology and stringent standards have seen retreads become economically viable in every sense.

Tyres are basically petrochemical products and the manufacture of a truck tyre uses up to 80 litres of oil. Since approximately 70% that oil is found in the tyre casing, which is recyclable in the retreading process, only 25 litre of oil are needed to retread that same tyre. As such, a medium-sized fleet using only approximately 500 tyres a year would help to conserve more than 27,500 litres of oil annually! What a difference we can make just by retreading our tyres. Besides, the disposal of old and unused casing in landfills will also be considerably reduced. So, retreads are in fact recycled tyres that conserve oil and make a positive contribution to sustainable development of the environment and society.

The many benefits of retreading ...
  • Cost 30% - 50% less than purchasing a new tyre.
  • Environmentally friendly, reduce oil dependency and pollution from tyre disposal by 70% and 80% respectively.
  • A retreaded tyre is as safe and durable as any comparable new tyre.
  • Retreaded tyres can be driven at the same legal speeds as new tyres with no loss in safety, performance or comfort.
  • 90% of the aircrafts worldwide retread their tyres including military aircraft such as Hercules C-5A.
  • Saves North America 400 million gallons of oil each year.
  • Saves the USA trucking company US$2 billion annually.
Like wine, rubber improves with age. A rubber tyre’s life begins after its first treads have worn out. It is organic by nature and improves after it is being used. This is why worn tyres can be retreaded up to 12 times.
